Karim Kahatt


Karim Kahatt is an accredited lawyer by the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Perú (1997), LLM in Environmental and Corporate Law by The University of Texas School of Law (2002), and Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Development Management by the London School of Economics and Political Science (2005). He is admitted to practice in Perú since 1997 (Lima Bar Association) and in New York since 2007 (NY Bar Association). Mr. Kahati is also an official mediator accredited by the Ministry of Justice of Perú.

Professional Experience:

Karim Kahatt has over thirteen years of experience in natural resources, environmental and corporate law. He has been an associate at the Law firm of Grau Abogados (Lima, Perú), between 1998 and 2001, where he practiced corporate, mining and environmental law. In October 2000, the Fulbright Commission in Lima awarded him a full scholarship for postgraduate study in environmental law, with which he attended The University of Texas School of Law. He subsequently practiced as a visiting lawyer at Baker Botts, LLP in Austin, Texas, as part of the Inter American Network of Environmental Law Specialists (RIELA), and the firm’s environmental team. Mr Kahatt has also been a consultant for the Legal Vice-Presidency of the World Bank at the East Asia and the Pacific Practice Group, and at the Project Finance and Co-financing Practice Group (2003). He currently leads KAHATT ABOGADOS.

Academic Experience:

Mr Kahatt is a lecturer at the Natural Resources Law Post-graduate Diploma of the Universidad de Lima, where he teaches Environmental Law and Policy for Extractive Industries. He is also a lecturer at the Socio-Environmental Conflict Resolution Diploma of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, where he teaches Natural Resources and Environmental Law.
